New Mexico Privet / Forestiera neomexicana

Forestiera neomexicana (Desert Olive) -- taken out in fall 2020.

Blue berries in fall - 9/13/19
Leaves are browned a bit, these get no extra water at all.

Two huge desert olives screen the front of the house on the right side. They are unruly and need some serious pruning, but my attempt to shape them a bit got overwhelmed.

They do offer shade and they soften the corner of the house. When walking out the front door, they screen the immediate view of our neighbor's yard to the side.

In spring 2019 I did get them professionally pruned, and over the summer I tried to get in under the branches and keep after the suckers at the base (not easy). I do think they look better, but they are still wild looking big shrubs.

September 13, 2019

They get no water at all, other than what falls during monsoon (and we did have a snowy winter). The leaves are a bit curled and browned in places, but the overall shrubs are full and leafy.
