Chamomile / Anthemis

Anthemis tinctoria 'Susanna Mitchell' (Marguerite Daisy)
From High Country Gardens in fall 2019

Expectations:
Chamomile is supposed to be short lived and leggy in rich soils.

It blooms with the cutest little flowers for a long time. Flowers are small and creamy and the foliage is feathery. It should form a mounded clump.

Don't water too much.

Experiences:
I planted this in the kitchen courtyard for a white daisy flower.

May 13, 2021, looking great, bloomed a long time
Even though chamomile is likes dry, infertile soils, this seems to want water to look good.

It filled out and spread out well in 2021. It's probably in too much rich soil here. This garden has lots of compost and gets watered well.

So it's sprawling a bit and not as tightly mounded as expected.

It does seem to be leggy. It lays down on the ground and looks floppy and wilted without a fresh douse of water. After watering it perks up and the daisy wands stand tall.

June 12, 2023
In the mornings, in shade, the petals recurve and it looks like they are spent flowers that should be cut off. But in a few hours they pop back out in full sun.

Each year it seems a bit smaller, it is definitely not spreading, but it is still there. It is short lived, and I may need to replace it or plant something else there.

In 2023 it was a quiet, cheerful bit in between the deep blue speedwell spikes.
