Mukdenia

I love the rich glossy red-tinged foliage of these low growing plants, and wanted some to fill spots here in the shadier areas of my new gardens. But they did not thrive.

After they declined in the soil, I dug them up and planted them in pots and put them in deep shade. They did okay with that rescue, but not really well. They need a moist woodland shade setting, and I cannot give them that here.

Mukdenia in my Connecticut garden

They weren't easy to grow in CT either, it took several years
to get them to fill in and look good.
