Flax wants infertile, dry conditions. Don't deadhead all of it -- let it reseed.
The first flax plant disappeared within a year, but in 2025 I got a dwarf variety called 'Appar'. The blue looks stunning. I put several in random spots around the garden to see what it would do.
In my friend Lucy's garden she had flax standing in clumps in the gravel around her yard and it was striking. I don't think it was 'Appar'. She said it just appeared.
