Took these out in 2022 -- too coarse and prairie-like for the spot. Needed a lot of water.

It's a native helenium - sneezeweed -- that wants moist conditions and cool montane summers and full sun. The big scrappy laves have a streak of white on them.
But it was recommended for shade and in shade I may not need to keep it so well watered. But still I water a lot.

I bought this on a whim, after asking for something for shade at Plants of the Southwest. I put 4 in the back of the potting bench curve for some height and color.
In 2020 the plants did not grow anything more than a few basal leaves.
As of 2021, their second year, they had green, healthy, strappy looking leaves and no sign of any flowers even in late August.
