Aster / Symphyotrichum

Symphyotrichum novae-angliae 'Purple Dome' - gone now.
From Agua Fria Nursery in fall 2020

Symphyotrichum novi-belgii 'Professor Kippenburg'
From High Country Gardens in fall 2020

Also called Michaelmas Daisy

Expectations:
'Purple Dome' is vivid magenta, and was originally a tight ball.

'Professor Kippenburg' is a reddish purple, although online pictures show it as quite blue and it is described as lavender.

Professor Kippenburg is supposed to look like this?

Experiences:
Added two asters to the gardens in fall of 2020.

July 31, 2022
The New York aster 'Professor Kippenburg' went in the kitchen courtyard right at the front, and my plan was to have them bloom in late summer with the butterscotch crocosmias behind it, the color combination would be nice.

The crocosmias are gone, and the aster blooms in June and July at the same time as the Royal Candles speedwells.

The royal blue veronicas and reddish purple aster colors are a little odd together. But the aster is a nice tidy clump and looks good. After blooming it stays green and full.

I do want it to get a little bigger and spill over the edge of the flagstones.

The New England aster 'Purple Dome' at first went at the back of the potting bench curve in front of the boxwoods, but in spring 2021 I took it out. I didn't like the magenta purple or the tight bun effect.
